The Rummage Room will celebrate its 54th Grand Re-opening Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. with all ‘new’ merchandise. Donations will be accepted Wednesday, Sept. 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Please do not leave donations before this date.)

The Rummage Room began in 1964 as an annual rummage sale held at the First Congregational Church of Greenwich. This event was so successful it was transformed into a business housed in a vacant storefront at 191 Sound Beach Ave. in Old Greenwich. Today, still operated by the Women’s Fellowship of the church, The Rummage Room is a great place to find a bargain, donate your new or gently used items and/or make a tax-deductible donation.

“T’was the week before Re-opening, and we all moved with haste, To make sure the ‘new’ merchandise was all in its right place. The clothing was hung on the hangers with great care, In the hopes that crowds of customers soon would be there! The shelves they are a bulging with many great buys, Like clothing for the ladies and suits for the guys! This may be the best Re-opening in many a year, Raising funds for the many in need, far and near.” (By Mary Jane Penwell).
