Neighbor to Neighbor Crowdfunding to Help the Hungry and the Environment

What if your weekly amount of groceries was determined by how much you could carry?

Neighbor to Neighbor’s Executive Director, Nancy Coughlin, explains why this is a critical question for many local families.

“Some of our clients are not accepting the amount of food they are entitled to in our client choice pantry because they are unable to transport the food to their cars or on transit services. Twenty percent of our clients are elderly, some are disabled and others simply are single mothers juggling little ones while selecting nutritious food to keep them healthy,” she explained.

“Their food security should not be limited by the amount of food they are able to carry. We want all clients to fully utilize the food benefits available to them which include three days-worth of food for each family member each week.

“We’re crowdfunding $2,000 to provide 80 clients with a grocery trolley to help transport their food home. A donation of $25 will purchase a lightweight, reusable grocery bag with wheels for a Neighbor to Neighbor client. This will ensure that clients are able to take home enough food to make nutritious meals without limiting their access,” she continued.

“Another benefit of this campaign is to bring awareness to and support of Greenwich’s recent town ordinance banning single-use plastic bags,” Coughlin noted. “Since the ordinance passed, residents have shown interest in reducing any burden on low-income neighbors unable to afford reusable shopping bags. Your support of this project will provide a client with a convenient, multi-use bag that can be used throughout our community!”
