Gennaro Scarpelli, of Greenwich, passed away early in the morning on June 29, 2018 in his home surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

He was 90 years old. Born in Rose Cosenza, Italy on Oct. 17, 1927, the son of Eugenio Scarpelli and Rosaria Iuso.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years Carmela Bria Scarpelli, son Eugenio Scarpelli (Militzia) of Livingston Manor, N.Y., daughters Rosaria Pirri (Eugenio) of Greenwich, Anna Gallo (Ennio) of Greenwich, six grandchildren Eugenio Pirri, Jr. (Lisa) of Stamford, Jessica Hickey (Doug) of Trumbull, Gisella Sowin (Joe) of Dallas, Texas, Gennaro Scarpelli (Sabrina) of Queens, N.Y., Carmela Gangi (Vinny) of Greenwich, Luisa Pellegrino (Mike) of Greenwich and 16 great-grandchildren.

Gennaro immigrated to America with his family in 1966. He had a successful career as a grounds keeper at Burning Tree Country Club for over 30 years maintaining it’s beautiful grounds where he was known and respected by all the club members. A hard-working man, who took pride in making his wife and family happy. He had a green thumb and enjoyed caring for his garden, making his wine and ensuring his guests had a glass of wine in their hands as they walked through the door. Gennaro, known to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Nonno and Papi, adored him immensely. He will be missed tremendously by all who knew him, he will never be forgotten.

Family and friends gathered July 1. A Mass of Christian Burial was held July 2 at St. Roch Church, followed by entombment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Greenwich.
