The Retired Men’s Association of Greenwich (RMA) will host Dennis Corcoran, author of Induction Day at Cooperstown: A History of the Baseball Hall of Fame Ceremony, on Wednesday, July 18 at 11 a.m.

Teacher, author, historian, and baseball fan, Corcoran will talk about the origins and history of the Hall of Fame museum and its election process. He will discuss how the ceremony on induction day has evolved since 1939 and will highlight four of the most impressive speeches by honorees inducted into the Hall of Fame. He will also tell us stories about the fans, including a former president, and how their enthusiasms have become an integral part of the ceremony. Over 80,000 attended the induction of Cal Ripken, Jr. and Tony Gwynn in 2007.

A graduate of Villanova University and the John Jay School of Criminal Justice, Corcoran taught social studies for 30 years in the Hendrick Hudson School District.

Corcoran lives in Pleasantville, N.Y. and has a monthly blog, I left my Heart in Cooperstown.

The program takes place at the First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich, 1 West Putnam Ave. For more information, email info@greenwichrma.org or visit greenwichrma.org
