Obituary: Genevieve McHale

Genevieve Gorman McHale, formerly of Greenwich, CT and Vero Beach, Fla., passed away peacefully on May 16 at the age of 92 at her Edgehill residence in Stamford.

Mrs. McHale was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Capt. Bartholomew J. Gorman and Marguerite McGeehan Gorman. A graduate of the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, Pa., and Drexel University, Mrs. McHale also obtained B.A. and M.A.T. degrees in art education at Manhattanville College, Purchase, N.Y. A lifelong art lover and painter, she taught art in the public schools of Westchester County, N.Y. She was a member of St. Michael Church and the St. Michael’s Women’s Guild in Greenwich. A former member of the Women’s Club of Greenwich, she served on the club’s board of directors. For many years in Vero Beach, Fla., she was a member of the Vero Beach Art Museum and its Community Committee, the John’s Island Community Service League, and the Holy Cross Women’s Guild.

John L. McHale, her husband whom she married in 1950, passed away in 2012. She is survived by her children Bartholomew J. McHale and Kent L. McHale of Greenwich, Amy McHale Pinchbeck of Darien, and Holly McHale Biggins of Quincy, Mass, along with eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 22 from 5 to 7 p.m., at Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home, 267 Greenwich Ave. A mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, May 23 at 11 a.m., at St. Michael Church. 469 North St.
