Letter: Make Plans to Vote if You’re Away in August

lettertotheeditor

To the Editor:

This past weekend, the Republican Party selected three capable candidates to run in the Republican Primary on Aug. 14; the time when many individuals and families are taking a well-deserved vacation.

With that said, the stakes are just too high to watch and let others decide who serves as the next leader of our state.

Our state is at a major economic crossroads and the next governor will prove critical in turning things around for residents and businesses alike. We have dozens of residents leaving our state every day and dozens of businesses departing each year. Our economy is the same size today as it was in 2004. We can do better. We must grow our way out of the current economic quagmire, while also investing in infrastructure and higher education. Let’s demand bold action by our elected officials during this very precarious moment in our history.

It is imperative that the next governor must serve as our chief business development officer; an individual razor-focused on attracting human capital and businesses to our great state.

I ask that you reach out to your town hall in order to request an absentee ballot as soon as possible. If we demand thoughtful and competent leaders, we must participate in each step of this election process. A healthy democracy not only requires participation but also civic engagement. Please vote on Aug. 14 either in person or via an absentee ballot.
