Zachary M. Tahmincioglu, a 47-year resident of Greenwich, CT passed away on May 8, 2018 at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, N.Y. He was 92.

Zachary was born on Aug. 16, 1925 in Constantinople, Turkey to Theognosia and Michael Zachariadis, however the name was changed to Tahmincioglu during the Turkish unrest. He attended Robert College, Istanbul, Turkey and worked at Mobil Oil after graduation. Zachary’s father Michael owned the largest winery in Constantinople but when the winery was destroyed during one of the Turkish upheavals he came to the United States on Fulbright and Rockefeller Scholarship to attend either Harvard or Columbia University Business Schools in the early 1950s. Zachary chose to attend Columbia University where he received his M.B.A. in Economics. It was at Columbia University that he met and married Helen Blaise Vontas who had received her master’s degree in Teaching at Columbia University Teachers College. The couple lived in Pennsylvania where Zachary had a position at Dixie Cup and then moved to New Jersey and eventually settled in Greenwich, where he worked at American Can Company for over 25 years.

Zachary’s business concentration was business research and forecasting. He has written a number of articles and books in his field of practice. During his retirement, Zachary used his skill of being multilingual as a translator for lawyers and the court system in Connecticut. He was a Greek language tutor to high school students. During his free time he avidly read The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Economist. He enjoyed the opera and all the arts. Zachary served in many officer roles on the Parish Council of The Greek Orthodox Church of Our Savior and was a dedicated Steward of the Church.

He was predeceased by his parents, Theognosia and Michael, wife Helen, brother John, sister Aliki, as well as cousins Gavril and Simeon. He is survived by his daughter Dr. Elizabeth Danae Kassapidis, son-in-law Dr. Dimitrios Kassapidis, granddaughters Roxanne and Zoe of Greenwich, niece and nephew Michael and Dena Tahmincioglu of Thessaloniki, Greece, sister-in-law Koula Tahmincioglu of Thessaloniki, Greece as well as many dear friends.

Visitation was May 13 and funeral services and burial ceremony, May 14 followed by interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Greek Orthodox Church of Our Savior, Rye, N.Y. or Calvary Hospital, Bronx, N.Y.
