Paul Wood, 90, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of April 26, 2018.

Paul was lovingly devoted to Esther, his wife of 66 years. He loved his family, and is survived by his three children, Clare Sorrentino, Paul Wood III and Jon Wood. He is also survived by his three grand children, Peter, Katy and Tim Wood, his daughters-in-law Jackie and Mai Mai, and his son-in-law Matthew, who all miss him greatly.

Paul graduated from Yale University with a degree in Engineering, and proudly served as a US Naval Officer on the USS Coral Sea aircraft carrier. He continued his service in civilian life in the Naval Reserve, and retired as a Lieutenant Commander.

Paul was a brilliant engineer in mechanical, electronic, electrical and optics design, working with a number of companies including Time Inc. and Sikorski.

He enjoyed sailing his C-Class racing catamaran, the Beverly. He devoted time to camping with the Boy Scouts, and was very involved with the Presbyterian Church of Old Greenwich for 50 years.

Generous, outgoing, and cheerful, Paul had many interests, including history, particularly the Civil War. He also enjoyed reading Shakespeare, and biographies.

A service celebrating Paul’s life was held at Knapp Funeral Home in Greenwich on May 7. To honor Paul’s memory, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
