Greenwich Historical Society will host award-winning author and CNN Presidential Historian Douglas Brinkley for an intimate book signing, dinner and lecture on April 18, sponsored by Northern Trust.
Brinkley will draw from his recently published book, Rightful Heritage, which addresses the fundamental tension between economic growth and environmental stewardship through the eyes of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, whose passion and drive left a large mark on the American landscape – more than any other president. His analysis provides striking parallels to today’s divisive political environment on important issues of our time, including climate change and America’s stand on the Paris Peace Accord as well as the roles of the Environmental Protection Agency and FEMA. The title of Brinkley’s talk is “A Timely Tale in an Age of Political Turmoil on the Role of Capitalism and Environmentalism.”
“Mr. Brinkley’s point of view on today’s critical environmental issues will provide the framework for a very spirited discussion,” says Historical Society Executive Director Debra Mecky. “We are thrilled to have him for this important fundraiser as we enter the final stages of our Capital Campaign to Reimagine the Greenwich Historical Society campus.”
In addition to his post as CNN Presidential Historian, Brinkley is a professor of history at Rice University, a contributing editor for Vanity Fair and a frequent contributor to The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Atlantic Monthly and Rolling Stone.
The event will be hosted at a private home in Greenwich. Tickets are $500 per person. All proceeds will go to the Greenwich Historical Society’s Fund for Program Enrichment.
