The Greenwich Commission on Aging will host a “Dementia Friends Information Session,” Tuesday, April 10 at 10:30 a.m., at the Greenwich Senior Center, 299 Greenwich Ave.

Dementia is rapidly increasing, expecting to double for people ages 75-84 and triple for those over age 85. Younger onset Alzheimer’s, occurring in people under age 65, is also on the rise. Greenwich has a rising older population. All sectors of our community need to be prepared to address the growing opportunities and needs faced by residents with dementia, their families, caregivers, employers and our community as a whole.

At the Dementia Friends program, attendees will learn five key messages about dementia and what it’s like to live with dementia. As a Dementia Friend, participants will turn their new understanding of dementia into a practical action that can help someone with dementia living in our community.

The program will be presented by Katie Regan and Sharon Gesek, Southwestern CT Agency on Aging.
