Greenwich First Selectman Peter J. Tesei proclaimed March as American Red Cross month.

The proclamation, which was presented by Mr. Tesei and Greenwich Police Chief James Heavey at Town Hall on March 19 to the Red Cross Metro New York North Chapter Executive Director Mary Young, recognizes the dozens of Red Cross volunteers in Greenwich who tirelessly give of their time and financial resources to help those affected by disasters.

In presenting the proclamation, Tesei said, “We applaud our heroes here in Greenwich who give of themselves to assist their neighbors when they need a helping hand.”

Locally, the Metro New York North Chapter that is headquartered in Greenwich, has assisted hundreds of residents with the installation of free smoke detectors as well as safety education programs. The Chapter serves 1.8 million people in Fairfield, West Point, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan and Westchester counties.

Young said the organization is accepting reservations for its popular Safety Town program – a weeklong safety education program for students entering kindergarten. The classes will be offered June 4 through 15.
