Obituary: Mary Elizabeth Livezey

Mary Elizabeth Livezey, 80, of Greenwich, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2018. She was born May 7, 1937 to John and Elizabeth (Leahy) Livezey in Canton, Penn.

Mary graduated in 1955 with the first class of Canton’s new high school. After graduation she earned her graduate degree at Misericordia University in 1959. She also earned a bachelor of the arts in education and a master’s degree in education from the Teachers College Columbia University. She began her teaching career in Harrisburg, Penn. and went on to teach in New Canaan and Greenwich, Connecticut where she would eventually retire.

After retiring, Mary enjoyed volunteering, substitute teaching, spending time at her church, and shopping.

Mary is survived by her brother John Livezey, a nephew John, and two nieces, Amy and Clare. She also leaves behind four grandnieces and nephews and two great-grand nieces. In addition to her parents, Mary is predeceased by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mary’s legacy is with the hundreds of children that she lovingly taught.

Friends are invited to call on Friday, March 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch Street, Greenwich, CT 06830. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 24, at 1 p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 469 North Street, Greenwich, CT 06830. The burial will be held Monday, March 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Canton, Pa. 17724.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s honor may be made to the Canton War Memorial Swimming Pool, Canton, Pa. 17724 Attn: Amy Seeley
