Western Middle School to Host St. Baldrick’s Event

Western Middle School (WMS) is hosting a St. Baldrick’s Head Shave Event on Thursday, March 15, at Western Middle School (gymnasium), from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event will benefit St. Baldrick’s Foundation, an organization dedicated to fighting childhood cancer. WMS Principal Gordon Beinstein said, “This cause hits close to home for the Western community, as two of our students have recently been stricken with this disease. The Foundation’s single goal is to eliminate childhood cancer, raising $234,000,000 in research grant funding since 2005. We hope the entire community will turn out to help us support this cause. Shave your head, cut your ponytail or cheer us on while heads are shaved and hair is cut on March 15th, all are welcome!”

The St. Baldrick’s Head Shave Event raises funds by asking participants – ‘shavees’ – to solicit donations from friends, families, local businesses, etc. and in exchange they will shave their heads in solidarity with the kids who often lose their hair during cancer treatment. WMS is also offering an option for those that do not wish to completely shave their heads, but may solicit donations in exchange for cutting their ponytail (at least 8 inches).

All participants must submit a Participant Agreement Form and may obtain more information and sign up for the event at the Western Cares page of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation website.
