Quartet Brings Classic Jazz to First Church

New York City jazz guitarist Ron Petrides, well known for his blazing technique, brings his Jazz Quartet to First Church on March 11 at 4 p.m., for the final event of the 2018 Sunday Afternoons Live concert series. The Quartet includes renowned Austrian saxophonist and flutist Gottfried Stoger, bass virtuoso Ratzo Harris and Grammy-nominated drummer and producer Gerry Gibbs.

Petrides has established himself on the New York jazz scene over the last 20 years, performing with many famous musicians, including Walter Bishop Jr., Dizzy Gillespie, Ron McClure, Billi Hart, Duffy Jackson, and Bob Mover. He has taught at Columbia and NYU, where he also earned a Ph.D. in composition. A master interpreter of John Coltrane and other greats from the golden era of jazz, Petrides has also recorded many of his own compositions.
