Sylvia J. Mullen (Pinney), 86, wife of recently deceased Thomas J. Mullen, her loving husband of 64 years, died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018 in the comfort of her daughter’s home in Milton, Mass.

Born on April 3, 1931, she was the daughter of the late William Burrall and Helen (Hopper) Pinney and the sister of the late Arthur Pinney. She was raised in Winsted and in her youth spent summers at Sachem Head in Guilford. Upon graduating from Edgewood Park School in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. in 1951 she moved to New York City where she worked in retail and began a modeling career, which included working for the John Robert Powers Agency and the award-winning fashion designer Ann Fogarty.

After devoting herself to raising her four children, she began another career at age 52 working for an impressive 34 years at the Greenwich Health Department’s Division of Environmental Services.

Reluctantly retiring at age 86 in June 2017, she cherished her co-workers, her opportunities to grow and evolve and the position she was in to enthusiastically engage and assist a wide variety of town citizens and businesses.

She is survived by her children Tom (Cocoa Beach, Fla.), Kathy and husband Michael O’Connor (Milton, Mass.), Tim (Greenwich) and Peter and wife Jennifer (Ridgewood, N.J.). She is also survived by seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and many loving nieces and nephews.

She also leaves behind scores of friends and neighbors who long-appreciated her vivacious personality, warmth and loyalty.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 10 at 10a.m. at St. Agnes Church, 247 Stanwich Rd, Greenwich, CT 06830.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Cos Cob Library, which held a special place in Sylvia’s heart.
