Greenwich Library Offers Training for its Oral History Project

greenwich-library-fi

The award-winning Greenwich Library Oral History Project will offer two, two-hour training and orientation classes for prospective volunteers this month. The first will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and a second session will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 20 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The Library’s Oral History Project (OHP) conducts and collects interviews with Greenwich residents who describe life in Greenwich from the 1890s to the present day. Volunteers contribute in a variety of roles, and training is required.

Topics to be covered in the training and orientation class include the history of oral history, the origins of the project, and interviewing techniques. There are several current openings for volunteers including interviewing, editing, indexing, researching photographs and artwork, public relations and administrative support. Participants will have the opportunity to conduct an oral history interview before joining OHP.

The Oral History Project, sponsored by the Friends of Greenwich Library, was founded in 1973 and is staffed by volunteers. Its collection includes more than 960 interviews and 138 published books.

For more information, or to register, call the Oral History Project office between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday at 203-622-7945 or email ohistory@greenwichlibrary.org
