“I thought we had a good day. Greenwich High is a little bit young, but we’ve got some young kids in our lineup, too. I was impressed that we won the close matches,” said Bruins head coach, Tim Ostrye.

Overall, Brunswick won 12 of the 14 weight classes.

Senior tri-captain Jack Ocken defeated GHS sophomore, Ryan Marida, in 1:30; fellow tri-captain Lachlan Rosato pinned Esdras Flores-Najera in 1:24; Justin Canelli won his match over GHS sophomore, Glen Rivas; freshman Jackson Wolfram defeated Will Fox in 1:20; Chris Perry pinned GHS junior, Nicolas Orellana, in the second period; Rishi Das defeated Emanuel Lai; Nicky Bell pinned Mitchell Grimes; and Harry Fett pinned GHS senior, Aly Ibrahim.

Brunswick’s John Deluccia earned a tech fall; Mclain Kingery, Nadj Ngbokoli, and Clayton Ostrover all earned decisions.

Greenwich High jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the 182-pound matchup which saw Brunswick’s Timothy Saunders pitted against Cardinal junior, Andrew Nanai, who lost to Saunders last year. Greenwich’s only pin came in the 113-pound weight-class when freshman Carlos DeWinter defeated Will Donovan in the second period.

With such a young team, the Cardinals bumped some wrestlers up into higher weight-classes to try and shake things up. However, the Bruins could not be denied.

“We knew [Brunswick was] the better team going into tonight,” said GHS head coach, Greg Domestico. “The matches we needed to come out our way that were tight going into the third [period], they just didn’t end up with us getting our hand raised.”
