While the forecast continues to change seemingly by the minute, the latest report as of Wednesday morning shows a moderate to major snowstorm impacting the Fairfield County area during the day on Thursday.

According to Jacob Meisel’s forecast which can be found at swctweather.com, 4-8 inches of snow is expected to hit coastal and inland Fairfield County beginning as early as 4 a.m., with the worst conditions coming between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Some models are even showing the possibility of 12-plus inches in New Haven County and 10-plus inches in Fairfield County.

According to Meisel:

Confidence has ticked up slightly from yesterday but models are still struggling to find a clear consensus on exactly where the strongest band of snow sets up, with some having it just to our east and others having it further east.

However, Meisel said that confidence for at least three inches of snow across the region, mostly during the morning commute, is high and that school and business closings should be expected.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for New Haven County, and Winter Storm Watches for Fairfield and coastal Westchester Counties. There’s also a risk for Blizzard Warnings along the coast since wind gusts are expected to reach upwards of 45 m.p.h.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice are expected which will make travel very hazardous or impossible.

A Winter Storm Watch entails that there is potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous.
