Greenwich Land Trust Gears Up for the Holidays

The Greenwich Land Trust is gearing up for the holidays with a host of programs and workshops. Join them for a winter walk, grow your own mushrooms, experience the seasonal landscape and learn something new.

Winter Walk: Knowing trees without the leaves: Thursday, Dec. 14 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Can you identify trees without their leaves? Join Greenwich Land Trust and program partner Greenwich Tree Conservancy for a guided, medium intensity, naturalist walk through the forest of the 40-acre Lapham Preserve. The walk will focus on identification of trees and understanding the survival strategies of flora and fauna during the winter months. Lapham Preserve is located between 95 and 85 Richmond Hill roads. Grow Your Own Mushroom Workshop: Saturday, Dec. 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Learn about the ecological role of native fungi while building your own mushroom log that will produce edible mushrooms for years to come! A fun activity for all ages that makes a great gift. It takes place at the Louise Mueller Preserve, 370 Round Hill Rd. The cost is $15 for GLT members and $20 for non-members. Pre-registration is required at: gltrust.org/event/grow-your-own-mushrooms

Habitat for the Holidays/Bird Feeder Craft: Wednesday, Dec. 20 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Join GLT for a family-friendly, guided, low intensity, naturalist walk through the habitat gardens of the Louise Mueller Preserve with Greenwich Land Trust Conservation Educator Dean Fausel. Craft a pine cone birdfeeder out of natural foods collected from the property while you walk, plus take part in holiday-themed games for young families. Volunteer: American Chestnut Sanctuary: Thursday, Dec. 21 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Help the Land Trust staff with mulching, labeling, and installing protection against small animals on their hybrid American chestnut trees. Learn about the triumphant return of the American chestnut to Greenwich’s forests. Meet across from 18 Burning Tree Rd. (street parking) Look for GLT sign to Duck Pond Hill Preserve.
