The Garden Education Center of Greenwich (GEC) will host author John Phibbs speaking on English Landscape Designer, Lancelot “Capability” Brown, on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m.

Phibbs, a historic landscaper, author, and authority on Georgian landscapes is set to introduce his new book Capability Brown. Brown, considered by many to be England’s greatest Landscape Architect, was responsible for designing 170 parks and gardens at fine country homes and estates throughout Britain. Among these were Croome Court, Stowe, Blenheim Palace, Chatsworth, Petworth House, Milton Abbey and Burghley House.

Brown was nicknamed “Capability” because he often told his clients that their gardens were “capable” of improvement.

Phipps’ books Capability Brown, defining the English Landscape and the soon to be released Place-making, the Art of Capability Brown, will be available for purchase and pre-order and can be signed by the author.

Admission is free to GEC members and $20 for non-members. To register, visit GECGreenwich.org or call 203-869-9242. GEC is located at 130 Bible St.
