Marie Louise “Bunny” Godfrey Weicker, 86, died peacefully in her home in Greenwich, Connecticut on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren, and loyal canine companion, Molly.

Bunny, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, is survived by three sons: Scot Weicker of Riverside, Gray Weicker of Stamford, and Brian Weicker of Denver, Colo.

Born Marie Louise Godfrey on Jan. 7, 1931 in New York City; she was the daughter of the late Marie Louise Godfrey and Henry Fletcher Godfrey. Bunny grew up in Rye, N.Y. with her two brothers, the late Bill Godfrey and Dick Godfrey of Santa Barbara, Calif. Bunny was a graduate of Connecticut College. She has been a resident of Greenwich for over 50 years and an active member of the Belle Haven club since 1960. She spent her summers in Marion, Massachusetts and continued the wonderful tradition of summers in Marion with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Family was the cornerstone of Bunny’s life. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren: Amanda, Melissa, Brooke, Brittni, Matthew, Alexa, Tyler, and Zachary and two great-grandchildren: William and Eliza. Bunny thrived on being an integral part of not only her children’s lives but her grandchildren’s lives as well. One could always count on seeing Bunny in the crowd of every athletic event, near or far, cheering on her family.

Bunny devoted her life to the Greenwich community, a community in which she loved. Her civic pursuits were many, including but not limited to, being an active Board Member of Family Centers since 1977, Co-Coordinator of the Child Protection Team of Greenwich since 1979, and a member of the Greenwich Garden Club. She also spent her time volunteering at Child Care and Parenting Council, as well as the Head Start Program at Armstrong Court.

Bunny received many honors for her community service, including the Spirit of Greenwich Award, the Garden Club of America Certificate of Appreciation, the Connecticut Council of Family Services Agencies Family Champions Award, the Helen Gratz Rockefeller Outstanding Volunteerism Award from Family Centers, and the Outstanding Legendary Senior Volunteer Award from the Volunteer Center of Southwestern Connecticut.

In addition to family and community service, she cherished her countless close friendships. Bunny touched so many in her lifetime, her friends describing her as having a smile as wide as the sky with a personality to match. She lived life to the fullest with only love in her heart and beauty in her soul. We celebrate the life of Marie Louise “Bunny” Godfrey Weicker.

Bunny’s Memorial Service took place at Christ Church on Nov. 1. In her memory contributions may be made to Family Centers Inc. of Greenwich or online at familycenters.org
