Letter: Bernstein, For investing in Our Children’s Education

lettertotheeditor

To the Editor,

I’ve been doing a lot of observing with regard to who are the best people on our Board of Education that represents our 9000 children in our Public School System. Three topics come to mind; Charter Change, the Education Budget and letting the leaders in our Cabinet/Administration lead.

First and foremost, I am of the school that we should all invest in children. After all, they are our future. So when I observe our candidates on the Board of Education, I see two Democrats who seem to have the children’s best interest in mind, believe in collaboration, investing in our schools/teachers and keeping politics away from education.

However, since there are only two Democratic Candidates and only two get on, time will tell since they will be new to their future position on the BoE. I also see three Republicans vying for two positions and, in the spirit of true competition, I’ll just say, it’s interesting to see how some behave when placed in that scenario. I know Sherr and Auerbach are for Charter Change and believe that politics ARE in education because our State does not require Non-Partisan Boards.

Politics have no business in education. Period. It is for that very reason why our town Charter mandates an equal number of both parties on the Board of Education. So it begs the question, shouldn’t anyone holding a seat on the BoE be required to keep it out? Shouldn’t it be an obligation to protect our children from being in the crossfire of bureaucratic nonsense?

Republican or Democrat. It doesn’t matter. Peter Bernstein is against Charter Change.

Peter Bernstein has also voted no to the SST Change. Not because he didn’t believe in the science behind more sleep, rather, because he didn’t believe the Board properly vetted out how it would affect traffic, student athletes, clubs or students with jobs. He was right by the way.

That brings me to New Lebanon School. You build a better school you enrich the lives of children and the entire town. Period. Peter Bernstein fought to have that municipal project approved, which was vetted, appropriated for budget-wise, vetted some more and ready to go. Bernstein fought and fought to get these kids what they deserve; a school their teachers and they can thrive in.

And, finally, leadership. Good leaders make you feel safe. We have incredible talent in our Cabinet/Administration. Peter Bernstein has and will continue to allow the Administration to do what they do best.

Thank you, Peter Bernstein. For investing in our children’s education and allowing our leaders in Cabinet to lead. Thank you for all you do and continue to do. Keep fighting the good fight please. Our children need someone like you on the Board of Education.

You have my vote!
