The Greenwich Old Timers Athletic Association announces that it will be holding its 57th Annual Sports Awards Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 6:30 p.m., at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

This year the Old Timers presents both Howard Johnson and Mark Herzlich as their National Honorees. Johnson played for both the World Series Champion New York Mets (1986) and Detroit Tigers (1984). Howard was also a member of the Colorado Rockies and the Chicago Cubs in the thirteen years that he played in the big leagues. In 2011, Herzlich signed with the New York Giants where he has played linebacker and has been a member of their special teams unit. In his rookie season, Herzlich was on the Giant team that won Super Bowl XLVI.

The Old Timers’ local honorees are: Jim Jagodzinski, Peter Mandras, Lou Orlando Jr. and Bea Walko. Each of these individuals has assisted the young men and women of our community to grow and mature through their participation in athletics. Their honorees have helped thousands of young athletes to become productive, active members of their respective communities.

The Greenwich Old Timers Athletic Association’s mission is to contribute to youth sports and programs that use sport to augment their services. Monies raised as a result of the communities’ participation in their two fundraisers of the year will fund individual scholarships and provide financial assistance to local families’ children so they may participate in local athletic programs.
