Cos Cob Library to Host a Quilt Talk on Saturday

The Staff and Friends of Cos Cob Library invite all to a PowerPoint program, “Let’s Talk About Quilts” with Susan Jerome, on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. What do you think of when someone begins to speak of a quilt? Can pieces of fabric evoke an emotional response? This PowerPoint discussion explores the ways in which quilts have become part of American culture.

Learn about textile history, like how printed cotton fabrics and dyes influenced quilt making in 19th century America. Explore why quilting is now considered a “leisure time” activity. Learn how to properly store your heirloom quilts for future generations and have your questions answered regarding textile and quilt history.

You are invited to bring one quilt or quilted object with you. These objects will be used to illustrate and enhance the discussion of all-things-quilts.

Jerome is the Collections Manager at the University of Rhode Island Historic Textile and Costume Collection. She is also a principal at CT Quilt Works. An avid textilian, she is happiest when writing, talking and doings all things textile.

The program takes place in the Community Room of the Cos Cob Library, 5 Sinawoy Rd. No registration is required. Call the library at 203-622-9356 for more information.
