Greenwich Library announced that Adam Alter will speak at a “Worth Noting” event on Thursday, Nov. 2 at The Field Club, 276 Lake Ave.

Alter, a PhD in Psychology from Princeton University and professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business, will discuss how tech companies and marketers design games, apps and more with predictable human psychology in mind and how to preserve our health and well-being by navigating a world of irresistible experiences.

Greenwich Library launched “Worth Noting: a Forum for Ideas and Conversations Benefitting Greenwich Library” in March 2017 with a luncheon featuring national healthcare expert Marna P. Borgstrom, CEO of the Yale New Haven Health System and Yale New Haven Hospital. The Worth Noting series features speakers with a unique experience or perspective to share. The goal is to provide the community with the opportunity to engage in provocative discussions in furtherance of the Library’s mission to promote lifelong learning and discovery.

Library Trustees Angelique Bell and Susan Carroll are serving as co-chairs of the event. The reception starts at 6 p.m. and the program at 7 p.m.

“Adam’s groundbreaking study on how computers, phones and other devices are so hard to ignore is fascinating,” said Chip Haslun, President of the Greenwich Library Board of Trustees. “His thoughtful and practical suggestions on how to reverse engineer behavioral addiction are invaluable.”
