Last Thursday evening, two Greenwich business women came together to celebrate the essence of ‘shop local’ while benefitting the next generation of young entrepreneurs through a special evening, “Wanderlust for a Cause.”

Greenwich native, Ashley McCormick, founder of ASHA by ADM, a successful jewelry and accessories company and Jolie Goldring, a highly experienced luxury travel consultant, recently named ‘Trendsetter by Luxury Travel Magazine,’ have been friends and colleagues on a mission to combine their love of travel (the source of inspiration for both of their respective ventures) while giving back to the community they both very much love.

McCormick and Goldring, both mothers of young girls, wanted to find a meaningful way to leverage their talents and professional savviness to celebrate community and empower others simultaneously.

Goldring had first learned about the local program, ‘Girls with Impact,’ the country’s first online, real-time entrepreneurship program for teen girls – whose goal is to equip young women with the skills to launch businesses, non-profits and community projects – after reading about it in the Sentinel a few months ago.

The CT based organization, developed by Founder & CEO Jennifer Openshaw, consists of a 12-week coach-led Academy that not only helps girls to launch their own dream project, but also provides mentoring services as well as becoming part of the next generation network of female talent.

Guests from Greenwich and Fairfield County sipped on sparkling wine and noshed on delicate h’ordeuves – while perusing ASHA’s latest collections held at McCormick’s beautiful stark penthouse, located at 409 Greenwich Ave. on the 2nd Floor.

In total, 15% of all proceeds from the evening were donated to GWI – providing scholarships for young girls to enroll in the program who would otherwise not be able to afford it.

When asked why Goldring choose to support GWI?

“I love the concept of empowering young girls in this very community and providing them with tools and skills to envision and formulate a business concept – as these are usually the sorts of skills you have to learn on your own or through an MBA,” said Goldring.

GWI released a new report on International Girls Day which showed that while only 17.8% of participants in college venture competitions are women, it’s the women who are wining most of the prize money.

“Just a fraction of women participate in venture competitions, but they are rising to the top,” said Openshaw.

“This has huge implications for venture capitalists, policy leaders, educators, and businesses. Yes, girls can have big gains.”

As another way of giving back to the community, guests entered their name for the chance to win a 3-night stay at the Rosewood Bermuda, which is undergoing a vast renovation to be unveiled in March 2018.

At the end of the cocktail hour, the lucky winner was announced in full suspense- and was awarded to Greenwich’s Eliza Niblock, the wife of Andrew Niblock, the headmaster at the Greenwich Country Day School who has been battling Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) over the past year.

In addition to the in-store drawing, both women hosted a social media campaign to ‘tag a friend,’ where participants are entered to win a luxurious, five-night trip for two to Morocco, donated by Heritage Tours with a value of $5,000. The winner will be selected on Fri., Oct. 20.

McCormick, a native of Greenwich who first started her business while in college, showcases her collections in over 80 boutiques, including Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue, and has nearly nine thousand Instagram followers.

Goldring has designed custom vacations for her clientele (many in Greenwich) for over 15 years. Her strategic partnerships with leading, luxury hotels and destinations as well her personal relatability are the cornerstone of her success.

“Greenwich is a large town with a small-town vibe. I love that I can do and experience something different every few weeks, meet new people and yet still have the sense of community and comfort,” said Goldring.
