Greenwich United Way Reading Champions started its 10th year of dedicated service to its flagship program at a kick-off meeting with the program liaisons on Sept. 15. Program Coordinator, Marie Wardell, and Volunteer Coordinator, Betsy Coons, met with site liaisons to plan the launch of Reading Champions at all Greenwich elementary schools and four after-school programs. The program officially starts in late October. Volunteers are always needed and Greenwich United Way provides training. “The launch meeting is one of the most important components of starting the Greenwich United Way Reading Champions year. It exhibits how the program is organized and it provides the leadership needed to service a number of children who benefit from our program every year. The launch meeting allows the team to share ideas, distribute program materials, and provide the support for the upcoming GUW RC year. As the program grows, we need volunteers to service the children, volunteer training will take place October 3, 4, and 5,” said Marie Wardell.
