On Thursday, Oct. 5, Breast Cancer Alliance (BCA) will once again host its “GoForPink” community event in the Town of Greenwich at which time BCA partners with more than 60 businesses to raise awareness and critical funds toward eradicating breast cancer.

GoForPink has become a special day of shopping, dining and educational events dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Participating merchants will display window signs, offer special discounts and refreshments, and will generously donate a percentage of their proceeds, with some extending benefits throughout the month. Many will also be donating items to BCA’s Annual Luncheon Auction on Oct. 26 when the community unites again to support BCA’s platform.

Loren Taufield, Chair, GoForPink said, “We are so grateful for the overwhelming and passionate support from the community and the large number of merchants who enthusiastically participate in GoForPink. Enhancing this year’s special day of support will be expanded dining opportunities with some establishments graciously extending promotions throughout the month.” Taufield added, “It is a great day to spend with friends and family to shop, dine and support our generous local merchants partnering with BCA as we rally together towards the goal of a cure.”

“Since its founding in 1996, Breast Cancer Alliance has significantly contributed to the successful treatment of and quality of life for breast cancer patients,” said BCA President Mary Jeffery.

As it has been every year, Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei will kick-off GoForPink at the Breast Cancer Alliance flag raising ceremony held at Greenwich Town Hall at 9 a.m. Dr. Barbara Ward, Director of Breast Care Services at Greenwich Hospital, will speak on the importance of making a difference, both medically and as individuals.

The ceremony will be followed by a breakfast and educational talk at Richards at 10 a.m. BCA is partnering with the Junior League of Greenwich (JLG) to host a conversation with Dr. Marisa Weiss, Chief Medical Officer, founder, and visionary behind Breastcancer.org — the world’s most utilized resource for expert medical and personal information on breast health and breast cancer. A breast oncologist with more than 30 years of active practice in the Philadelphia area, Dr. Weiss serves on the Center for Disease Control’s Federal Advisory Committee on Breast Cancer in Young Women and has authored four critically acclaimed books on breast cancer and breast health.

“GoForPink is a great event that provides a double benefit: it gives the community a variety of ways to support the millions of women affected by breast cancer, and it gives them such a meaningful way to support BCA,” said Dr. Weiss. “Each dollar raised creates a ripple effect that will positively impact education, support, and research bringing us closer to the promise of a cure.”
