Earlier today, Town of Greenwich Selectman Drew Marzullo issued a statement, saying that he will remain on the ballot for re-election as Selectman. Voting for the election will take place on Nov. 7.

Below is Marzullo’s statement on his decision:

“To say I am thankful  for the overwhelming acts of kindness I have been receiving would be an understatement,” said Marzullo in the prepared statement. “The benevolence that has been displayed has sustained me on many levels and I am forever grateful. After thoughtful consideration and encouragement I have decided to remain on the ballot in the community I love, and for people I care deeply about. I do so with the hope of trying to accomplish the many things yet to be achieved. While I have been advised by legal counsel not to comment directly about the alleged incident on Aug. 26, for anyone who knows me, remaining quiet does not come easily. In fact, it has been extremely difficult. Thank you for giving me an opportunity of a lifetime to serve as Selectman. I know that on Nov. 7, you, the voter, will make the right choice that is right for you.”

Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei sent out a statement in regards to Marzullo remaining on the Nov. 7 ballot:

“For the past eight years, the Board of Selectmen, with Drew as a member, has worked collaboratively to place the interest of the citizens of Greenwich first,” said Tesei in the prepared statement. “Drew’s decision to remain on this November’s ballot and to continue to serve the residents of Greenwich after this unfortunate circumstance reflects his willingness to want to continue in this endeavor. Ultimately, the voters will decide who will serve on the Board of Selectmen for the next two years.”

The incident on Aug. 26 stems from an arrest for shoplifting at the Clinton Crossing Premium Outlet mall. The arrest is a misdemeanor charge and Marzullo posted the $5,o00 bond. Marzullo’s due in court on Oct. 17 in Middletown.
