Joan B. Denne died peacefully on Sept. 4 at Greenwich Hospital.

Joan was born on March 28, 1940 in Queens, N.Y., and spent most of her childhood in Brightwaters, N.Y. She graduated from Ursinus College in 1961 and went to work at Equitable Life Assurance Society in New York, where she met John, her husband of nearly 54 years. Joan and John moved to Cos Cob in 1966 and to Riverside in 1972.

Joan was a long-time volunteer at Community Answers and was a former deacon at First Congregational Church, where she was a near 50-year member.

She also served as a Girl Scout troop leader and was a member of Riverside Yacht Club. Joan was a loving and caring wife, mother, “Grammy” and friend, who was much loved in return and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by her daughter, Alison, and son-in-law, Brooks Foehl, of Williamstown, Mass., her grandsons, Taylor of Middletown, Del., and Jake, Brady and Toby of Williamstown, and the many cousins on her maternal side who were more like sisters and brothers to her.

A memorial service will be held later in the fall at First Congregational Church.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Joan’s memory to First Congregational Church, 108 Sound Beach Avenue, Old Greenwich, CT 06870, or Ursinus College Advancement Office, 601 E. Main Street, Collegeville, PA 19426.
