Deadline to Apply for Girls with Impact Program is Sept. 15
On the heels of Connecticut’s first-ever Girls Entrepreneurship Summit this past weekend, Girls with Impact is calling for teen applicants of all backgrounds to join this powerful entrepreneurship program. The deadline to apply is this Friday, Sept. 15.
“Your career won’t be a straight line,” said Harvard Business School professor and Girls with Impact Advisor Lynda Applegate before the gathering. “It will be a zig-zag, but prepare today by turning a passion into a project or business. The world is changing so fast.” Nearly 200 gathered this past weekend at UCONN Stamford to hear from three Girls with Impact members and how they are impacting their community and college success. Other speakers included New Canaan resident Hadley Pollet, CEO of Hadley Pollet, a contemporary accessories design firm, and Heather Cabot, author of the new book, Geek Girl Rising.
Author Cabot emphasized that the need for gender diversity requires women learn tech skills – a skill that is often required no matter what kind of business or project one starts.
“There are only a handful of women in venture capital and as entrepreneurs,” said Cabot. “We need to change that – and it starts with you.”
Girls with Impact is now taking applications for its Fall program. Teen girls ages 15-17 may apply at girlswithimpact.com/entrepreneur-girl-2017 for one of five class times.
The 12-week Academy, designed with experts from Harvard Business School, enables girls to attend class with their expert coach and classmates from the comfort of their home.
The program is already helping girls get a jump-start on their college applications. “I had no idea how to get my idea off the ground, but Girls with Impact really helped,” said Jamie Yee, 16.
Girls with Impact is the country’s first online, real-time entrepreneurship program just for girls. Headquartered in Connecticut and partnered with the YWCA, the organization provides a 12-week Academy designed with Harvard experts, mentoring, and an ongoing network.
