Letter: Moffly for Duus

lettertotheeditor

To the Editor:

I heartily support the RTC nomination of Andy Duus as Republican candidate for the BET. I know of no one more qualified for this important committee.

Andy, a 37-year resident of Greenwich, has been deeply involved in its non-profit service organizations and has served on the RTM’s Budget and Overview Committee, where he has become familiar with the town’s finances. Undertaking a thorough analysis of the state’s budget, he created a detailed plan that many feel could well be the basis for solving Connecticut’s intractable fiscal problems.

Governor Malloy’s plan to transfer the burden of teacher pension costs to the towns will challenge the BET to find ways to absorb this added expense with a minimal increase in property taxes. I believe Andy, with his knowledge of state and town finances, can contribute much to such a discussions.
