Letter: Hess Asks for Your Support

lettertotheeditor

To the Editor:

I am writing to ask for the support of our Greenwich community for my candidacy for the Board of Estimate and Taxation (BET).

I believe government starts at the local level where it facilitates the well-being of the community and quality of life for its residents. This can be done efficiently and, especially at the local level, with open communication and collaboration.

With over 30 years of experience in finance, including 14 serving as a chief financial officer, my professional experience has developed strong skills that are beneficial for serving on the BET and directly relevant for a finance committee: experience, leadership, conflict resolution.  I have a strong sense of what it takes to operate a business, including knowledge of the appropriate processes and controls.

I embrace the values of what it means to be a Republican.  Being fiscally responsible and conservative is very important to me.  We need to continue to look for opportunities to save money, especially those resulting in efficiencies and the integrity of the process.  Being focused on our budget is especially important given policies coming from Hartford and the impact on our local budget.

Thank you for your consideration.

Debra Hess, Old Greenwich.
The writer is a candidate for the BET
