Second Congregational to Host ‘Homecoming Weekend’

On Friday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m., Second Congregational Church kicks off its Annual Homecoming Weekend, a series of outdoor public events and worship services held on the church campus at 139 East Putnam Ave.

“September is a time of new beginnings for so many of us,” says Senior Minister Maxwell Grant. “Some people are getting back into their routine after a busy summer, with church as a part of that.”

“But other people find themselves in a place where they’re thinking about trying church for the first time. Maybe they are asking new questions about life, or thinking about how to give their kids a way to think about right and wrong. We see those moments as an even more wonderful kind of ‘homecoming,” and would love to see those folks at our Homecoming Weekend.”

The weekend will also feature the inaugural Saturday night Evensong Service at 5 p.m., featuring contemporary Christian music in a more informal setting, and particularly welcoming seekers and families of all ages.

Other events include:

Friday, Sept. 8, at 6 p.m. A Great Gatsby Themed Murder Mystery Night! Participants will be assigned a character prior to the event & they will need to work together to find out “who done it.” Reservations are required. Please contact Shawn@2cc.org for details.

Saturday, Sept. 9, at 3 p.m. Collage and paper painting workshop for all ages under a tent on the church’s Mead House Lawn with Kathy Chattoraj of Future Picassos. The church is asking for a $20 donation to benefit Kid Share, a program that brings art and art therapy to vulnerable children around the world, helping them to tell their stories and find healing. It’s a great family event that supports an amazing cause. Please email Shawn@2cc.org to reserve your spot.

Sunday, Sept. 10, at 10:30 a.m. The day starts with a positive, informal worship featuring a Bluegrass Band followed by a Potluck-style BBQ featuring burgers, hot dogs, etc. Food will be provided by church members (last names beginning with A-L are asked to bring salad dishes while M-Z will be vegetable dishes). There will be a bouncy castle, face painting and ice cream for kids.

All are welcome. For more information, please contact:
