With the new school year set to begin this week, the Greenwich community is grappling with the tragic loss of a Sacred Heart Greenwich senior.

According to a press release issued by the New York State Police:

On Aug. 25, 2017 at approximately 11:10 a.m., New York State Police from the Somers barracks, partnered with the Pound Ridge Police Department, responded to a residence located at 23 Fox Hill Road, in the Town of Pound Ridge, for an apparent murder-suicide.

Officers arrived on scene and discovered three people deceased inside of the home. A preliminary investigation indicated that 56-year-old Steven Dym of Pound Ridge, took the life of his 50-year-old wife Loretta Dym, their daughter, Caroline Dym, age 18, before taking his own life.

The couple’s oldest child, William, was away at the University of Southern California beginning his sophomore year.

Headmaster of Sacred Heart Greenwich, Pamela Juan Hayes, penned a letter to the SH community regarding the incident:

Dear Sacred Heart Alumnae and Parents of Alumnae,

It is with deep sorrow and shock that you may have heard about the tragic emerging details of a double murder suicide of our beloved senior, Caroline Dym, and her mother and father.  This morning, I met with members of our senior class to support them as they cope with the trauma of losing their cherished classmate and deal with their personal sorrow.
Sacred Heart administrators, faculty, psychologists, a priest, campus ministers, and grief counselors met with our students this morning to console and offer them the comfort they need at this sad time.  We are here to support our students, guide our families with information we will make available, and offer counseling to all who need it.
We are all grieving Caroline’s untimely death and the unexplainable events that led to it.  Please pray for Caroline and her family, and keep the Sacred Heart community in your prayers.  I will communicate with you when we learn of the funeral arrangements.
May God grant us all His peace and grace during this difficult time.
With a broken heart,
Pam
