Superintendent Announces Library Media Services Program Coordinator

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jill Gildea announced the appointment of Mr. Robert L. Hibson as the Greenwich Public Schools Library Media Services Program Coordinator, effective Monday, Aug. 21. Hibson is currently an Instructional Technology/Media Specialist with Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School in Old Lyme, CT with fourteen years of experience in educational technology and library media services. He said, “I am excited to begin working with the instructional staff and administrators in helping to realize the Vision of the Graduate for the children of Greenwich.”

Deputy Superintendent Dr. Ann Carabillo said, “Mr. Hibson brings an extensive knowledge of current practice and research in the field of technology and library media programs. His expertise, combined with his passion to have an affirmative impact on teaching and learning with staff and student learners, will have a positive influence on our blended learning environment. We look forward to working with Mr. Hibson on our ongoing implementation of the Greenwich Public Schools Strategic Plan.”

The Library Media Services Program Coordinator provides leadership in the development and implementation of the school library media program based on accepted standards and coordinates the development of a technology related curriculum.

Administrative candidates are selected after a comprehensive search and appointment process, which includes widespread recruitment efforts, multiple interviews, and extensive reference and background checks.

Bio Brief: Robert L. Hibson

Hibson began teaching in 2003 at the Metropolitan Business High School in New Haven as a computer teacher. He has worked as a media specialist since 2004, first at New Beginnings Family Academy in Bridgeport (2004-2006) and then for North Branford Intermediate School in North Branford (2006-2011), where he also taught social studies. In 2011, he became technology facilitator and computer teacher for Augusta Lewis Troup School in New Haven, before assuming his role in 2012 as an instructional technology/media specialist with the Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School in Old Lyme. Throughout his career in education, Hibson has initiated or partnered with colleagues in a number of innovative practices, including introducing the use of mobile devices in the classroom, developing digital citizenship curriculum, and developing and providing professional learning opportunities in instructional technology for staff.

Hibson received a bachelor of science degree in consumer affairs with a minor in psychology from the University of Rhode Island, Kingston, R.I. in 1988, and a master of arts in educational technology from Fairfield University, Fairfield in 2005. He completed his administration certification coursework at Sacred Heart University, Fairfield in 2015.
