Obituary: Gloria Andersen

Gloria (Herman) Andersen, 94, a lifelong Cos Cob resident, passed away on Monday, July 3 at Brighton Gardens in Stamford.

She was born on Sept. 25, 1922, the daughter of the late Fredrick P. and Mary Ellen Herman. She was the wife of the late William Andersen; she was also predeceased by a brother, Frederick Herman of Norwalk.

Gloria is survived by her son, William, Jr., of Bath, N.Y., her daughter, Susan Eibel of Strongsville, Ohio; also, she was a loving grandmother to William III of Maryland, Coral of North Carolina, Edward IV and Julie of Ohio, and a great-grandmother to Trent, Ethan, Addison, and Alexander; she is survived as well by cousins Barbara and Judy Herman.

Gloria enjoyed spending summers at Tod’s Point with her many friends and cruising with her daughter to many Isles of the Caribbean, Hawaii, and Alaska. Gloria was a founding and charter member and first president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Co., Inc., for over 63 years. In June of 2016, she was honored by the town of Greenwich and Greenwich Fire Department for service to the Ladies Auxiliary. Gloria is a Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Past Mother Advisor to Rainbow.

The family would like to thank Brighton Gardens, Constellation Homecare, Hospice, and nurses and aides for their compassion and care. A private service was held for the family. A public memorial service will be held at Diamond Hill United Methodist Church, 521 Post Road in Cos Cob on Aug. 12 at 10 a.m.
