Dorothy Wahl Smith passed away peacefully on July 15 in Greenwich at the age of 92.

A lifelong resident of Greenwich, she was the daughter of the late Theodore (“Teddy”) and Edith (“Edythe”) Wahl. She is survived by her brother, Theodore Wahl of East Sandwich, Mass.; her nephew, Wesley T. Wahl of Palm Desert, Calif.; her niece, Michelle Heftye, of Country Club, Mo.; and her great-nieces and great-nephews, Kevin Wahl, Jacqueline Wahl, Madison Heftye and Evan Heftye. She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Ann (“Bobby”) Wahl.

Dorothy had a deep love of all animals and cherished her time at Round Hill Stables, where her father, Teddy, taught many equestrians in Greenwich and beyond. She enjoyed her walks in Bruce Park and Grass Island with the various dogs she owned during her lifetime, including Chelsea and Champ. She recently adopted a neighborhood stray cat named Annie, and the bond between them was priceless.

Her greatest joy was watching the numerous birds, squirrels and chipmunks that appreciated the food and water she put out for them. Dorothy had many friends and touched their lives in a meaningful way, especially that of her nephew, Wesley, with whom she shared a special bond.

Memorial contributions on behalf of Dorothy may be made to Cornell University (Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program), Office of Alumni Affairs and Development, College of Veterinary Medicine, Box 39, Ithaca, NY 14853.
