The Greenwich Police Department has announced that in the most recent Safewise report of the top 30 safest places in the country to raise a child, the town of Greenwich tops the list at No. 1.

Safewise is a company that ranks a city after it looks into each city’s data, such as FBI crime statistics, public safety, public health and overall school quality rankings. Safewise also considers parks and recreational opportunities as well as programs focused on providing services for kids and families.

Greenwich Police Chief James Heavey said because of the GPD officers’ proactiveness in the community, the town is a safer place to live.

“Their dedication and hard work is greatly appreciated. Our partnership with the community and service providers place a very high priority on meeting the needs of our children and families,” Heavey said in a statement. “Greenwich is a thriving community because of all its agencies, collaborators and partners working together to make the community the best it can be. It is an honor to be recognized by an outside party for the efforts of our community.”

Greenwich First Selectman, Peter Tesei, noted that the recognition from Safewise is an endorsement and affirmation for the police department and all they do for the town.

“Given the geographic size of the town, the diversity of the demographic in terms of rural, urban, and the fact that it received a high level of satisfaction is a testament to the police department and the support it receives from the town administration, government and the public,” Tesei said.

In January of this year, Safewise also ranked Greenwich in the top 20 of safest cities in the U.S.
