Town Mourns Loss of Teen Struck by Metro-North Train

The Greenwich community is mourning the loss of a 17-year-old Greenwich High School junior who was struck and killed by a Metro-North train in the early morning hours of June 18. The victim’s name has not yet been released. The investigation is currently being taken up by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police.

Just after midnight on Sunday morning, the Greenwich Police Department, Fire Department, emergency service units and MTA Police responded to the Cos Cob train station on a report that an individual had been struck by a train. Upon arrival, it was determined the victim was deceased. The train involved in the incident originated in New Haven at 10:45 p.m. Saturday night.

The Greenwich Board of Education had mental health staff available throughout the day Monday for anyone who needed grief counseling. People who need continued counseling are urged to call the help line at 211 or 911 if they need any emergency help or intervention.
