Frank J. Strazza, Sr.

Frank J. Strazza, Sr., passed away on April 12 aboard the Princess Regal with his wife, Helen, by his side. He was 80 years old.

Frank was born in Greenwich on May 21, 1936. He served for three years in the United States Navy as a helmsman for the USS Norfolk during the Korean conflict. Frank also served with pride and was a highly decorated police officer for the NYPD (34th precinct) in Washington Heights, N.Y., for 22 years. He was a true patriot who loved his country. Frank was also the proprietor of F&H Limousine in Garnerville, N.Y., for 15 years.

Frank leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Helen Zawatski Strazza; two loving children, his son, Frank Strazza, Jr., his daughter-in-law, Tina Strazza, and his daughter, Helene Strazza (Mark D’Ariano); two beautiful grandchildren, Eric Strazza and Rachel Strazza, who affectionately called him “Pappa Frank”; his sister, Gloria Horwath; his sister-in-law, Gladys Presto; his brother-in-law, Joseph Zawatski; and many beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Frank resided in Garnerville, N.Y., for over 50 years and most recently re-established himself in New London, Conn., by the beach, where he enjoyed cooking for his family and friends.

Frank loved attending his grandchildren’s and grandnephews’ events, games and plays. He was an active member and mentor for GA for many years. He enjoyed cruises, sports, fishing, current events, history, debating politics, loved dogs and being by the ocean. Frank lived a very active and fulfilled life and will be greatly missed. He loved and was loved deeply by many. Frank would have been 81 on May 21.

His family would like to invite you to a memorial service in his honor on Sunday, May 21 at 12 p.m. at the Greenwich Hyatt, 1800 E. Putnam Ave., Old Greenwich, with a celebration of life luncheon to follow from 1 to 4 p.m.
