Brunswick students visit residents at Hill House.

In observing the monthly calendar for Hill House residents, with its rich variety of options, one would conclude there is certainly something for everyone.

There are exercise classes, Healing Touch Therapy, Tai Chi and Healing Circle, Knitting Club, art classes, plus movies and Bingo. There are weekly shopping expeditions for groceries. There are frequent outings to special destinations, such as the Flinn Gallery at Greenwich Library or the Bruce Museum.

Several times a month Hill House hosts community groups who come to share their expertise and talent. At a recent birthday celebration the Grace Notes, the Greenwich female singing group, presented some of their repertoire. The highlight of their program was a serenade to Frank and Margaret Fatta, who were celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary.

Later in the month, Hill House welcomed some young visitors from Brunswick School. Two pre-kindergarten classes – over thirty, four to five year old boys – brought their enthusiasm and their voices to entertain the residents. They encouraged the audience to join them as they sang “Itsy, Bitsy Spider” and “Bingo was his Name”, among other familiar songs. At the conclusion of their program, the boys went to all the attendees and introduced themselves and shook hands.

Especially during the winter months and weather challenges, having special programs presented by volunteers are the highlight of the week. Appreciation for this opportunity for interchange works both ways.

Hill House is a home in Riverside for seniors with low to moderate income. It was founded in 1978 in response to the need for senior housing as identified by the Greenwich Commission on Aging. With the recent addition of twenty-four apartments, Hill House now has sixty-two residents, most of whom have long been part of the Greenwich community or have moved here to be close to family. To learn more about Hill House, visit thehillhouse.org
