Carroll Crawford Mills, Jr., 87, of Dover, NH, passed away Thursday, April 20, from complications of pneumonia. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Crawford was born Nov. 7, 1929 in Sioux Falls, S.D., a son of Carroll Crawford Mills, Sr., and the former Jane Cecilia Knight. He was a graduate of Southern Methodist University. After graduating from college, Crawford served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy.

He embarked on a decades-long executive career in the fashion industry, beginning in Los Angeles at Catalina Swimwear. In New York City he later served as president of Halston Sportswear, general manager of The Erno Laszlo Institute, and CEO of Carolyne Roehm, Inc.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary, of Dover, N.H.; his daughter Amy Mills Oliva and son-in-law, Steve Oliva, of Dover, N.H., his son Andrew A. Mills of Los Angeles; his grandchildren, James Cunningham and Cecilia Cunningham, of Dover, N.H., and Frank Mills and Bridget Mills of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; his sister Mary Jane Fenn of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and was predeceased by his son Carroll Crawford Mills, III, in 2008.

A burial service will be held tomorrow—Saturday, May 6—at noon St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 200 Riverside Ave., Riverside, Conn.
