As of just after 4 p.m. on Thursday, forensic and police units were still at the scene where possible human remains were found on Wednesday morning in the southwest area of Helen Binney Kitchel Natural Park near Harding Rd.

According to a statement released by the Greenwich Police Department late Thursday afternoon, police divers helped hand search the shallow water in the area for any additional material, which would then be examined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The Greenwich Fire Department also assisted with pumping some of the water from the search area.

GPD said investigators are expected to be finished at the scene by midnight tonight.

The area has remained cordoned off since Wednesday morning when Town Parks employees discovered the remains while clearing away a wooded area. Police have said that this is not a recent event, and that further information will be released pending the OCME results.

The GPD will continue to conduct a death investigation, and they encourage anyone with information to contact the anonymous tip line at 1-800-372-1176, or email tips@greenwichct.org.
