Periodically, the League of Women Voters of Greenwich (LWVG) has undertaken studies of operations of specific areas of Town government. Most recently, an LWVG task force completed a detailed two-year study of the town’s Representative Town Meeting (RTM).

Questionnaires were sent to all current RTM members, committee chairs, district leaders, and a representative number of former RTM members. Members of the Board of Selectmen, the Board of Estimate and Taxation, and the Board of Education were interviewed in person, along with members of various town boards and commissions.

Based on the results of the questionnaires and the interviews, research and deliberation, and after endorsement by the membership of the LWVG, the task force prepared and will circulate its recommendations to all members of the RTM.

At the present time, LWVG members are working closely with the RTM’s Legislative and Rules Committee. RTM members, through their districts, have been asked to prioritize the recommendations.

Certain suggestions are already being put into place. For example, well in advance of November’s municipal election, Greenwich residents are being encouraged to learn more about the RTM and run for district RTM positions.

With the cooperation of the RTM and the League of Women Voters of Greenwich, the goal to educate and provide Greenwich residents with an effective and efficient legislative body will be realized.
