In their second game of the season, the Greenwich Academy water polo team clinched another win, taking the show on the road for the first time this season and upending Hotchkiss School 14-9.

Leading the Gators in points was junior team co-captain Borden Wahl, who took home seven of the team’s 14 goals scored.

In the first quarter, Greenwich quickly took control of the game with five goals. The dynamic trio of Borden Wahl, Kayla Yelensky and senior Quinn Scannel, controlled the ball for most of the quarter and worked successfully in sync.

Not to be out done by her twin sister, Ashlyn Wahl scored her first career goal after successfully setting up in whole set. Hotchkiss remained off the scoreboard until they finally broke through in the second quarter.

The Gators used this opportunity to switch up the bench and let many rookies and returning players have the opportunity to get out into the pool. Junior co-captain Camille Daigle led the way for the majority of the three remaining quarters while defending the ball.

Sophomore rookie Lindsey McBurney also took a turn working whole set and took many shots on goal.

Much of the success from the game came from goalie Lulu Meissen, who defended each corner of her goal and saved shot after shot. When Hotchkiss began to catch back up in the third quarter, the bench switched up again, relieving many players who gained invaluable experience in the water.

Yelensky and Borden Wahl returned to start taking down the deficit. The pair took turns stealing the ball from Hotchkiss offense and placing six balls out of reach and in the back of the net. Scannell aided with three assists of her own to help her teammates pull back the win.

Greenwich Academy took the win against Hotchkiss in 14-9 and will return to play April 19 when they battle Hopkins School.
