AuthorsLive@Greenwich Library and the Retired Men’s Association of Greenwich will present award-winning freelance journalist and historian Marc Wortman on Wednesday, April 19 at 7 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room.

Conventional wisdom dictates that the US entered World War II in retaliation for the bombing of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 8, 1941. However, in 1941: Fighting the Shadow War – A Divided America in A World at War, historian Marc Wortman reveals the ways in which America played an increasingly significant and clandestine role in the war in the months and years prior to officially joining the battle.

Marc Wortman is an independent historian and award-winning freelance journalist. He is the author of two previous books, The Millionaires’ Unit: The Aristocratic Flyboys Who Fought the Great War and Invented American Air Power (the inspiration for the prize-winning, feature-length documentary by Humanus Films) and The Bonfire: The Siege and Burning of Atlanta. He has written for many popular publications, including Smithsonian, Vanity Fair, and Town & Country, and his essays and reviews appear frequently on The Daily Beast.

This series is open to all at no charge, but seating is limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. For more information, please contact Stephen Schmidt at 203-625-6527, email schmidt@greenwichlibrary.org or visit greenwichlibrary.org/authorslive
