On Thursday, March 30 at 7 p.m., The Nantucket Project (TNP) Library Series presents “The Future of Capitalism: Navigating Global Crises and The Great Change of Our Time” with John Fullerton.
“We’re living amid interconnected economic, political, environmental, humanitarian crises and undergoing a Great Change comparable to The Enlightenment,” says John Fullerton, founder and president of Capital Institute, a Greenwich-based non-partisan think tank.
Come hear how capitalism – particularly our obsession with GDP – got us here, and how we can transform our businesses to be profitable and build a just and sustainable future. Fullerton will discuss:
• How capitalism can be structured to move us toward a healthy financial system and human economy.
• Why action is urgent now as we enter the Anthropocene, the first time in history that human activity is the dominant influence on the condition of the environment globally.
• His own experiences working on Wall Street, why he walked away, and what he’s learned since.
A former managing director at JPMorgan, Fullerton left Wall Street in 2001, later founding Capital Institute to illuminate ways for financial systems to promote a more sustainable way of living on earth. Fullerton was a member of the Greenwich-based Long Term Capital Oversight Committee that managed the $3.6 billion rescue of the distressed hedge fund in 1998 and he introduced the term Regenerative Capitalism upon the publication of his 2015 paper, “Regenerative Capitalism: How Universal Principles and Patterns Will Shape Our New Economy.”
