Serving more than 900 clients—from mom-and-pop shops to big corporations and more—Alfano & Company knows a thing or two about taxes and how to make a business financially successful.

“Ideally, we’ll have a client that we do all the services for from A to Z, and that’s the client that we can probably best serve because we can get a total picture of what’s going on,” said David Alfano, founder and managing member of the firm, in a video on the its website, www.alfanocpa.com.

Alfano, who has nearly 30 years of experience in the business and financial worlds, opened his firm in 1995, offering accounting, tax and advisory services to individuals as well as businesses.

“We’ll do everything from helping with [a company’s] bookkeeping and sales tax returns, and giving them business advice and going over statements with them, and see how they can save money,” Alfano, a Greenwich native who now raises his own family in town, told the Greenwich Sentinel.

With his business clients—a real focus of the firm’s last five years—Alfano said the team goes through the process of looking at taxes, deductions and how the company is set up company legally (limited partnership, limited liability corporation, etc.).

He and his staff even act as chief financial officer for some companies in need of such a service but without the necessary funds to hire someone in that role. Another service offered is business coaching, whereby, depending on the goals of a business, Alfano will coach an owner on how to reach those goals.

“Lots of times, people will be successful but people will spend the money too quickly and won’t be able to grow their business the way they want to,” he said, adding that his team will go over financial reports with clients and explain how to read them.

Located at 3 Boulder Ave. in Old Greenwich—in the same building as Generations Barber & Cigar Shop (operated by Alfano’s brother)—Alfano & Company’s staff helps everyone who walks through its doors with the same enthusiasm, the business owner said.

“When you start out on your own, you take everybody that walks in the door,” he said. “We have clients from all walks of life and all types of businesses.”

He added, “When we sit down with people, we discuss taxes, asset protection, retirement, growing profits and cash flow, and how to handle the bumps in the road.”

When it comes to taxes, Alfano—a certified public accountant—and his team will review the last two years’ tax returns as part of its service to see if there are savings to be had.

“You don’t know what you don’t know,” he said, adding that anyone can use an online service such as TurboTax, but nothing can compare to a professional’s touch.

While it may be the beginning of the so-called tax season, with the April 15th deadline just a few short months away, Alfano said keeping good, clean financial records and meeting with a tax professional year-round or before Jan. 1 is ideal.

With clients in mostly Westchester and Fairfield counties, and all over the United States, Alfano & Company is available year-round, an aspect that sets it apart, its owner said, from some competition.

In addition, whether a business client or just an individual who had his or her tax return done, the team is available throughout the year to answer questions—“value added,” according to Alfano, and another thing that separates the firm from others.
