Patriot National Bank, located on 100 Mason Street, was the victim of a robbery, as the bank was held up at gunpoint Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Greenwich Police Department, a white male entered the bank around 4:30 p.m., displaying a handgun and demanding cash from one of the tellers. The teller complied with the suspect’s demands and the suspect immediately fled the scene with the cash.

The suspect is described as a white male that is about 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7 in length and average build. He was wearing a winter hat with a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and light colored sneakers. Greenwich Police added that the suspect also attempted to obscure his facial feature by applying dark colored makeup.

Once the suspect left Patriot National Bank, a witness saw the suspect getting into a vehicle that was leaving the area. A Greenwich Police Officer located the vehicle just as the suspect turned onto Interstate 95 going Southbound on Exit 3. Although the Greenwich officer turned on his lights and sirens, the suspect refused to pull over and engaged the officer in pursuit.

Just after the suspect crossed into New York State, he sideswiped another vehicle and crashed his car. The suspect immediately got out of the car and fled the scene, engaging the police officer in a foot pursuit off of Interstate 95 and into the Port Chester Police Department’s jurisdiction.

The Greenwich Police Department said that no one was injured during the robbery.

The investigation between the Greenwich and Port Chester police departments, as well as other surrounding New York agencies is ongoing. The Greenwich Police Department says that if anyone has information regarding the robbery to call GPD or leave an anonymous call on their tipline at 203-622-3333 or 800-372-1176.
